In a recent article, Joel Kotkin of newgeography.com, asks an interesting question: Is The Midwest Coming Back? In his article highlights many recent studies that, when viewed as a whole, suggest the Midwest as being the strongest area in the country.
Some of the studies he sites are:
- The recent Brookings Survey that shows cities in the Midwest having a lower unemployment rate than the national average.
- A study on personal income in the 2000s.
- Reports on some of the healthiest real estate markets.
He also provides further dialogue on specific Midwest cities and their efforts for economic growth.
What are your thoughts? Is the Midwest poised to be able to compete with the strong draw of the coasts?
