This week I traveled to Peoria, Arizona with our programmer Todd Reed and CEO Ben Wright to kick off a new client. Peoria, Arizona is a suburb outside of Phoenix and is one of the largest suburbs in the area with 180,000 residents.
Peoria has been noted as one of the fastest growing areas right now and is the fourth largest in Arizona. In 2008 Money Magazine listed Peoria in the “Top 100 Places to Live.”
We arrived early Wednesday morning and went to straight to meet with a few of our new clients. We meet up with them on the city campus, which includes the city and planning offices, city hall, the office of communications and much more. After a great start our team headed out to grab a quick lunch before diving into a technical meeting to discuss the Ektron 400 CMS system we will be working in.
The last thing on the agenda for the day was a tour of Peoria. On the tour we ventured into Old Town Peoria where we visited the performing arts complex, home to a fantastic theater that sits 267 guests and an additional theater that seats 60 for more intimate performances. We also viewed the Tessera Solar Facility, Park West, a potential site for future developments, and Vistancia, a 12,000 residential community that is almost fully developed. That evening we met our client for drinks at Lis Doon Vrana, a local Irish Pub.
The following day we met with the city's stakeholders to gather insight and feedback regarding the new website. Afterwords it was back to Sky Harbor International Airport and then home to Denver. It was a great trip and an amazing kickoff to what I hope will be a very successful project and long-term relationship with the City and Economic Development teams of Peoria, Arizona!!
