Should you Attend that Site Selector Event or Industry Tradeshow?

Attending a conference or tradeshow has its appeal—you’re able to get out of the office, escape the monotonous day-to-day tasks, and see and talk to people you don’t typically converse with Monday – Friday. However, if you’re simply going to an event for a change of scenery, it might be time to think about the real benefits you’ll reap from attending a work-related gathering.

We’ve compiled a few questions you should ask yourself before signing up for the next industry tradeshow or having your team members attend on behalf of your company.

  1. Will the event help you cultivate better relationships?

If the answer is yes, go. Establishing, building, and keeping relationships with those in your industry (economic development or otherwise) is essential. And when you have the opportunity to strengthen these bonds face to face, all the more reason to jump in. Remember that an in person conversation, a handshake, or a coffee date can usually accomplish more than just an email.


Next week, the Atlas team – and technology partner Community Systems – will be attending IEDC’s Future Forum in Madison, WI, and we plan to get in front of a lot of people – clients, prospects, partners, and industry practitioners. We’re going to capitalize on cultivating better relationships!

  1. By attending the tradeshow, will you and your team be able to generate leads?

Not only is it important to enrich your relationships at these events, but it’s crucial to know the actual value that could come from attending. It’s great to show your face, talk about what your company has been up to, and schmooze everyone you can get your hands on, but more importantly, it’s what you walk away with. If you’re certain that you’ll be able to generate a few good quality leads that will help fill the pipeline and (eventually) satiate the bottom line, we’re all for setting up that fancy booth.

We’ve done our due diligence in identifying potential leads at the upcoming conference in Madison, and our team is focused on having quality conversations with these prospects, in addition to advancing some already qualified opportunities.

  1. Can the conference and what you glean from it help your team grow professionally?

Professional development is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of networking; after all, if you’re not growing as an individual and benefitting from conferences and tradeshows, what’s the point? Obtaining and honing new skills can help with your job performance, and you’ll also be equipped to master the next event.

It’s our goal that all of our employees attending the Future Forum next week walk away a more well rounded professional so they can embody our mission while at work and while representing our company at events, conferences, tradeshows, and as part of the larger community.

Never miss an opportunity to establish yourself as a credible expert.
